LIGHTHOUSE DEDICATION BRICK PROGRAM TO CLOSE 12/31/11

The Avery Point Lighthouse Society (APLS) has announced the reopening of the Avery Point Lighthouse Dedication Walkway Brick program.

For those who were not aware, the program was discontinued in May last year to permit installation of the first phase of the dedication walkway at the lighthouse.  The eight hundred foot walkway, comprised of over 3,100 engraved bricks and 17,000 blank spacer bricks, was installed this past summer.  This beautiful walkway, which overlooks Fisher's Island Sound and Long Island Sound, has become part of the attractive landscaping at the Avery Point Lighthouse and the University of Connecticut Avery Point Campus.

Since completing the first phase of the walkway, APLS has received hundreds of requests to purchase additional bricks.  Because of the overwhelming interest APLS is now ready to reopen the program to add to this beautiful and historic walkway.  Increases in the cost of installing the bricks has necessitated that the purchase price of each brick be increased to $75.00.  APLS feels this is still a reasonable fee to pay to purchase a personalized dedication brick that will be on display in the permanent walkway at this very historic lighthouse.

Money raised through sale of the bricks will be used to complete the lighthouse restoration, help with maintenance and to provide funding for other lighthouse projects.
