Relighting ????

A chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation

The lantern room was loaded onto a boat at the West Mystic Wooden Boat Building Shipyard, owned by Steve Jones.  It was Steve Jones’ crew who replicated the original lantern room, which was too deteriorated to repair, and donated it to APLS for installation onto the lighthouse tower at Avery Point in Groton, CT.  Mark Robinson, who did much of the building of the new lantern room was on hand this morning at the boatyard in West Mystic to personally guide the lantern room onto the deck of the awaiting boat CHIEF.

The images show the lantern room, which was actually completed about two years ago, being moved and loaded onto the boat.  The actual move to Avery Point is scheduled for the morning of September 22nd (Thursday).  I will post pictures of that move tomorrow.

This has been a long-awaited and much anticipated event, and it appears that the tower, which has been without a lantern room for about three years, will soon stand proud with her new top.
