Today was a "Good Day" - July 7, 2005

Today, July 7, 2005, was another “Good Day” for the Avery Point Lighthouse Society and the UCONN Campus in Groton, CT.

Dave Burnett and his crew of landscapers arrived early and got their engines and muscles working for the second straight day of walkway installation.  Yesterday’s crew continued to excavate soil for another 150 to 200 feet and replaced it with compacted processed stone.

Another crew showed up to start installing the first section of brick in the walkway.  The brick circle that will serve as an intersection and turning point from the main walkway to the final 80 feet to the lighthouse tower.  These bricks come as a specially packaged set of bricks of varying sizes and angles that, when complete, make nine circles.  This circle is gray and will complement red of the remainder of the bricks in the walkway.  They also go well with the gray granite of the Branford House.  I’m sure this circle will be a favorite spot for weddings and wedding pictures.

At the end of the day there are no unkempt piles of rubble or debris.  Burnett’s Landscaping is doing an excellent job of keeping the work site safe and clean, not to mention the beautiful walkway.

They will be continuing for another 500 to 600 feet with the excavation of soil and installation of the processed stone base.  The engraved bricks have arrived and we are expecting shipment of the 35 pallets of plain brick next Wednesday, which means the major brick work will probably start next Thursday (one week from today).  We’ll keep you posted.
